Why Uganda Action for Nutrition?

To date in Uganda, as stipulated in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), nutrition has been one of the major factor that affects the quality of life, overall performance and productivity of a population, however being an economic and development issue, it has not been given the attention it deserves. Thus the founding of the Uganda Action for nutrition (UGAN), which climaxed by it is being launched in November 2000 by it is patron Her Excellency Mama Janet Museveni.

Objectives of the Society

  • To create a forum for professionals in nutrition.

  • To facilitate linkage between nutritionists and other stakeholders.

  • To contribute to national development through lobbying and advocacy for nutrition improvement.

  • To build capacity in all aspects of nutrition.

  • To offer technical guidance in nutrition.

  • To develop and disseminate nutrition information.

  • To promote improved nutrition.

  • To carry out operational research in nutrition.
